化腐朽為神奇

“After 7 practice sessions on Saturdays over 2 months under the sun and rain, the Hong Kong office Dragon Boat Team embarked on its journey to compete at the Stanley Dragon Boat Championships on Sunday 8 June 2008.

The team was confident and ready to participate in the first race at midday against famous brands in the sports, toy, and computer system industry after a serious discussion on tactics and an encouraging and inspiring talk by our team captain … [omitted], plus a warm-up session led by …[omitted] on the upper deck of the office junk.

The team qualified for the second round of the Gold Cup competition after an impressive performance in its first race, coming in 6th place.  Later in the afternoon, under the blistering sun, the team competed against the fastest teams in the 1st round of the competition. The result of this race, in which 8 boats appeared to cross the line at the same time, was only determined after close scrutiny by race stewards of the photo finish. Unfortunately we were placed 12th in that tight finish, less than half a boat’s length from qualifying for the final!

We had an exceptionally strong team this year that was able to lift their performance impressively on race day.  Congratulations and thanks to the Hong Kong Office Dragon Boat Team captain …[omitted] and team members … [omitted]

The team members are to be commended for their dedication to practice sessions, their cheerful and competitive team spirit, but most of all for their sheer determination to have a fantastic day out, which is most certainly what they had.   Thanks too for all those who came along to cheer and support the Team!”
